Your Podiatry Consultation

A Podiatry Consultation is a detailed assessement of pain or injury to your lower limbs and feet. During your consultation a treatment plan will be formed and orthotics prescribed if necessary.

What is a Podiatry Consultation?

A Podiatry Consultation is an assessment by a Podiatrist to determine the cause of pain, discomfort or injury in your feet and lower limbs.

You will be booked in for a Podiatry consultation rather than a Routine Chiropody appointment if you are having pain in your feet, heels, ankles or lower limbs.

Our podiatrists will work closely with you, helping you to achieve the outcome you want from your treatment. You will be involved at every stage of the formulation of your treatment plan.

What will happen during my appointment?

At your first appointment the Podiatrist may ask about your general health status and medical and medication history. It is important to inform your Podiatrist of any medical problems and medications as this may affect your treatment. You will also be asked of any pains or problems which you are having and how long you have had the problem.

The Podiatrist may then carry out a physical examination on your lower limbs to assess the problem paying particular attention to current injuries. This physical examination will allow the Podiatrist to identify which structures in your anatomy are injured and to what extent they are injured. If necessary some equipment may be used in this assessment.

A more thorough assessment of foot function may be required if orthotics are to be prescribed. This can include motion studies, gait analysis and force plates.

Your Podiatrist will agree a treatment plan with you to try to meet your aims. This may involve the production of custom made orthotics while you wait or a course of Physiotherapy with our on-site specialist team.
