When the festive season approaches, and invites start to arrive, new shoes are usually not too far from many peoples thoughts. We have all bought new shoes which look fabulous, but after wearing them our feet feel anything but fabulous.
People think that podiatrists would always tell ladies not to wear party shoes; well we wouldn’t turn up to a formal evening in ugly but comfortable shoes ourselves.
Things to consider…
Are they car to bar?
How far will I have to walk in them? If it’s just a case of from car to bar, then you can make a choice based mainly on the appearance. If there is walking involved, consider taking something more comfortable in a bag that can be changed when you are out of the party. There are many shoes available for ladies that are designed for just this, they roll up very small in a bag, and you can discreetly change into them for the walk home.
Will I be dancing?
Dancing changes things, as you will be active in your footwear. A shoe that holds onto your foot is what is needed here. Some form of fastening is needed, and will reduce the risk of a fall. A sole which will offer some protection from uneven dance floors would also be wise, and maybe a lower heel if you are not so confident in them.
Are my shoes foot shaped, or will my feet be shoes shaped?
Is there enough room in the shoe for your foot? Most of us have been guilty of squeezing feet into poor fitting shoes in the name of fashion, but give a thought as to how much room is in there for your toes. If toes are squashed for any length of time, painful corns or blisters can develop.
Above all, enjoy your festive nights out, but give a little thought to your feet. Wear party shoes for as little time as possible, and keep your feet well moisturised with a good emollient. Make sure you visit a Podiatrist if you have any foot pain, or notice any changes to your feet.
