The History of Davenport House Clinic

Davenport House was built in 1858 and we have recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. The house stands proud at the top of Cheetham Hill Road with beautiful views to the hills and towards Stalybridge Industry. Davenport House’s gardens would originally have extended to Buckley Street, but over the years land was sold off to members of the family, and the original stables demolished. The stableman’s window, although now bricked up, can still be seen under the house.

Davenport House was historically used as a doctor’s surgery and the side door alongside the car park would have been where patients would have entered. In the cellar, below the house, the original stone table where the doctor would have held post mortems can still be seen.

It is often suggested that the slab is so large that the house must have been built around the table.davenporthouse
