This is a question that we get asked many times and the simple answer to this question is yes, you can buy custom made orthotics online. However there are certain drawbacks to doing so.

Firstly, custom orthotics are unique to each individual person. If you can buy the orthotics without actually being seen by a Podiatrist, how can this be achieved?

An online company will send a kit through the post which enables you to take a cast of your feet. You then send the cast back to the company and they will manufacture your custom orthotics. If you have not been assessed by a Podiatrist how can you be sure you need custom orthotics? And what do you need them for?

There are many types of off the shelf orthotics readily available in many sports shops and online but how do you know which type you need? Without knowing your foot type or diagnosing your problem it is difficult to know the correct option for you or if in fact orthotics are the correct treatment option.

The second question is, what happens if your orthotics do not fit into your shoes or if they don’t feel comfortable? Your orthotics would need to be sent back to the manufacturer for adjustment each time you feel they are not quite right.

Off the shelf orthotics are very generalised and come in universal sizes such as Small, Medium and Large. Again, a disadvantage of this is that you may need to spend time cutting the orthotics down to size and fitting them to your shoe.

The advantage of having custom orthotics made at Davenport House Clinic is the personal service that you receive. Your orthotics are made on-site at the time of your appointment and you can take them away with you on the same day. Our specialist equipment allows the Podiatrist to manufacture your orthotics so that they are as unique to you as you fingerprint. Our Podiatrist will fit your orthotics to your chosen pair of shoes and will ensure that they are comfortable and that you are happy before you leave. If you have any problems with your orthotics we will see you as soon as possible and do everything that we can to make them more comfortable for you.

Not only can we manufacture your custom orthotics on-site, we can also provide other treatment options should they be required. We will always offer a review appointment after your orthotics have been fitted to ensure that you are problem free and that your orthotics are doing the job they were prescribed for.

If you have any questions about orthotics or Podiatry treatment in general please do not hesitate to contact our Reception team who will be delighted to help.
