What is the difference between a Chiropodist in Stalybridge and a Podiatrist?

Not a thing! There is no difference between a Chiropodist in Stalybridge and a Podiatrist in Stalybridge.
In the UK podiatry is simply the new name for chiropody. The name was changed to podiatry in 1993 as it’s the international recognised name for a foot specialist. Chiropodists in the UK are being referred to as podiatrists more and more and many people in the profession refer to themselves as both.

Chiropodist is a term commonly used in the United Kingdom and Podiatrist is a term commonly used in the United States. They both concentrate on the treatment of feet, ankles and some knee problems. In the United States, a Podiatrist must be licensed as a Doctor of Podiatry Medicine, which includes a four-year undergraduate college degree. In the United Kingdom, the term chiropody is widely used to refer to more routine foot care, and podiatry is used to describe care requiring greater expertise and education, but, there is no difference in job description or educational requirements, and a chiropodist is a podiatrist.
Chiropody is a term deriving from the Greek words ‘chiros’ and ‘podos’ meaning ‘hands’ and ‘feet’ respectively, from previous times when foot practitioners were called ‘chiropodists’. The term Podiatrist derives from the Greek word ‘podos’ meaning ‘foot’ and ‘iatros’ translated as ‘doctor’.

Podiatrist or Chiropodist in Stalybridge

What is the difference between a chiropodist in Stalybridge and Podiatrist in Stalybridge?

It’s not just the name that has changed though. Podiatry is a constantly evolving profession, the extensive training given to students over the 3 or 4 years of their full time course and the continuing education after graduation enable Podiatrists to treat a vast array of foot and lower limb problems. Along with the most obvious treatments for corns and hard skin, specialties exist within the profession for almost any lower limb problem.
The registration process for podiatrists has recently changed. Due to recent changes in legislation, common professional titles like ‘chiropodist’ and ‘podiatrist’ are now protected by law. Anyone who uses a protected title must register with the Health Professions Council (HPC). Registration with the HPC now replaces the previous system of state registration.
When looking to make an appointment the phrases and letters you should look for are:
