By | 2018-01-22T14:51:43+00:00 November 5th, 2013|Blog|

Davenport House Clinic has received the prestigious accreditation award from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists but what does it mean? For our practice to have been accredited by the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists we have reviewed our standards to ensure that they comply with national standards and best practice within the profession. We applied for practice accreditation so that our patients know that their care is being provided within a safe environment. The accreditation scheme amongst other things also requires that: All re-usable instruments to be properly cleaned and sterilised before they are used. Staff engage in continuing [...]

Foot Health in Pregnancy

By | 2018-01-22T14:51:43+00:00 October 24th, 2013|Blog|

Our Manchester based Podiatrist's encounter many foot problems during and after pregnancy. From cramps and itchiness to swelling and aching, our feet can often feel very uncomfortable throughout pregnancy and following the birth. Hormonal changes and natural weight gain have a huge impact on the body and the feet bear the brunt of the major changes that a woman's body will go through. Swollen feet, swollen ankles and arch and heel pain are the main causes of foot pain in pregnant women. Muscles and ligaments stretch and soften because of an increase in the ovarian hormone relaxin, which makes your feet [...]

What is the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist in Stalybridge?

By | 2018-01-22T14:51:43+00:00 September 21st, 2013|Blog|

What is the difference between a Chiropodist in Stalybridge and a Podiatrist? Not a thing! There is no difference between a Chiropodist in Stalybridge and a Podiatrist in Stalybridge. In the UK podiatry is simply the new name for chiropody. The name was changed to podiatry in 1993 as it's the international recognised name for a foot specialist. Chiropodists in the UK are being referred to as podiatrists more and more and many people in the profession refer to themselves as both. Chiropodist is a term commonly used in the United Kingdom and Podiatrist is a term commonly used in [...]

Shopping for shoes with diabetes

As a Diabetic you will know the importance of caring for your feet. But, as well as caring for your feet it is also very important to wear appropriate footwear as poorly fitting shoes can cause serious foot problems. Shoes with a pointed toe can pinch which can cause an open wound and as you will know wounds on the feet can take a long time to heal as well as the chance that they could become infected. [...]

Learn to love your feet

By | 2018-01-22T14:51:46+00:00 July 26th, 2013|Blog|

Do you have a love / hate relationship with your feet? Our Stalybridge Chiropodist recently did a short survey to find out what people really think of their feet and we were surprised that the results were almost spilt 50/50. 50% liked their feet and the other 50% hated them. So why exactly do we feel like this? Our feet carry us everywhere and take a real pounding but some of us just hate them – why is this? We looked further into the love / hate relationship with feet and found that there is actually a condition called podophobia [...]
